Amanda Jenkins, Grappone Toyota Express Service Advisor, volunteered on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Pope Memorial SPCA. Last April, Pope Memorial SPCA relocated to their new three million dollar facility in Concord, NH. The new facility allows them the capability to help over one hundred animals at any given time. Amanda was amazed to see all that goes into the process of running an animal shelter. She arrived at 9 a.m. and started her shift helping the morning cleaning crew. Most of the staff begins work at 7 a.m. at the SPCA in order to have everything cleaned and ready to open the facility at noon. There was a room full of cats with the flu so everything had to be removed and bleached twice before new animals could go into this area. She also sanitized dishes, cleaned laundry, removed trash, organized food, and swept and mopped floors. After the cleaning chores were finished, Amanda assisted with data entry by inputting volunteer hours and filing new volunteer applications. There are over 300 active volunteers at the SPCA alone, which makes this non-profit organization a well-oiled machine. Volunteer positions range from dog walking and cat technicians to fundraising and special events. Amanda was very impressed by the passion and dedication that each volunteer displayed and she was glad to be able to be a part of helping the animals in need.
